I've just finished my research on E. coli, and I'll start the S. cerevisiae research after I post this. Yes, there was a lot of interesting stuff out there about E. coli. According to one source, "more is now known about E. coli than any other living organism." E. coli was also one of the first examples of a mutated organism being used to produce a raw material, in this case an amino acid. It wasn't genetically modified (at first) but it probably paved the way for genetic modification. ... I don't want to give too much away!
Alex said most of the very interesting things already but it was just very shocking to find out that these microbes that we hear so many negative things about actually have benefits like improving science research and many important things that affect human lives. These microbes "help" just as much as they "hurt".
I was confused about what E. coli was until I went on the website that Ryan gave us in the NPDD intro file. After going on that website, it became more clear to me about E. coli and how this relates to what we are studying this year about life. Most websites talk about the cons of these microbes instead of the pros, but just as Denise said, that these microbes are equally beneficial and harmful.
